LUKE 12:47-48
KJV 47 And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. 48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more. EXB 47 “The ·servant [slave] who knows what his master wants but is not ·ready [prepared], or who does not do what the master wants, will ·be beaten with many blows [beaten severely]! 48 But the servant who does not know what his master wants and does things that should be punished will be beaten ·with few blows [lightly; C a metaphor for judgment]. From everyone who has been given much, much will be ·demanded [required]. And from the one trusted with much, much more will be expected. ON EARTH...WHILE ALIVE... Should leaders' mess be exposed moreso than the missteps and sins of Average Joe and Average Jan? Leaders, whether true or not (not), are considered more wise, more knowledgeable and "better" than the Average Joe and Jane. Shouldn't leaders who claim to know more or claim to have a deeper relationship with God because they are leaders, apply Luke 12 to themselves as being the ones who are better able at knowing God's will for themselves and others? The question is not about what God actually meant. It's about how people interpret the scriptures according to their place in the Kingdom. If one places themselves or allows others to look at them as "higher" than everyone else, that one should also apply scripture to themselves more readily than to those they consider to not be as "high" in the Kingdom. I Chronicles 16:19-22 KJV 19 When ye were but few, even a few, and strangers in it. 20 And when they went from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people; 21 He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes, 22 Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm. EXB 19 Then God’s people were few in number, very few, and they were strangers in the land. 20 They ·went [wandered] from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another. 21 But he did not let anyone ·hurt [oppress] them; he ·warned kings not to harm them [rebuked/admonished kings]. 22 He said, “Don’t touch my ·chosen people [anointed ones], and don’t harm my prophets.” [rebuked/admonished kings]. ON EARTH....FOR THE LIVING... This scripture is often used in defense of those in charge, leaders, "higher" callings, yet vs 22 makes it clear that God is speaking not only about the leaders or prophets but also about His Chosen people. All God's chosen are the 'anointed ones'. Therefore, this scripture, when applied to the Prophet/leadership, should also be equally applied to Laity (noun 1. lay people, as distinct from the clergy. 2. ordinary people, as distinct from professionals or experts.) The tax collector in Luke should have been protected from scorn and punishment. The pew sitter should be as protected from scorn and exposure of transgressions and iniquities as the clergy. The sins or missing of the mark of Average Joe or Jan are often put our front or called out or confronted or listed out loud or talked/written about. Yet, when a Prophet has issues, all are admonished to cover, forgive and forget immediately, don't even speak of it around your own kitchen table, and act like it didn't happen because the Prophet should be more protected/hidden than Average Joe's and Average Jane's mess. Not so according to the scripture. Average Joe and Average Jane are God's chosen and should be just as protected from whispers, calling outs, exposing, etc., as anyone else. Acts 10:34-35 KJV 34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. EXB 34 Peter ·began to speak [ opened his mouth]: “I ·really [truly] understand now that ·to God every person is the same [God does not show favoritism/partiality]. 35 [But] In every ·country [nation] God accepts anyone who ·worships [ fears] him and ·does what is right [practices righteousness]. Romans 2:1-11 KJV 9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; 10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: 11 For there is no respect of persons with God. EXB 9 He will give [or There will be] trouble [affliction; tribulation] and suffering [distress] to everyone who does evil—to the Jews first and also to those who are not Jews [the Greek; C here meaning all Gentiles; see 1:13, 14, 16]. 10 But he will give [or there will be] glory, honor, and peace to everyone who does good—to the Jews first and also to those who are not Jews [ the Greek; v. 9]. 11 For God judges all people in the same way [there is no partiality with God]. James 2:8-9 KJV 8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: 9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. EXB 8 This royal law [C because God the king decreed it, or because it is the supreme law] is found in the Scriptures: “Love your neighbor as you love yourself [Lev. 19:18; Matt. 22:37–40].” ·If you [or If you really; or If you, however,] ·obey [fulfill; carry out] this law, you are doing ·right [well]. 9 But if you treat one person as being more important than another [show favoritism/partiality; 2:1], you are sinning. You are guilty of breaking God’s law [ convicted by the law as lawbreakers/ transgressors]. Colossians 3:25 KJV 25 But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons. EXB 25 But remember that anyone who does wrong will be ·punished [repaid] for that wrong, and the Lord treats everyone the same [ there is no favoritism/partiality]. Do one or the other: Cover and protect all or don't Call out and confront any. www.etsy.com/shop/becmin becmin.etsy.com ebay.com (search POEMS FOR WOMEN: BLACK WOMEN, ALL WOMEN) 9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; 10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: 11 For there is no respect of persons with God.
